Founded by close-knit family members Daniel, Dave and Sarahjane Gibson and inspired by the fervour/madness of the 70's folk-rock circuit, Streets of Laredo was born out of trying to escape the mundane everyday working life. Released in October, 2014, the Brooklyn by-way-of New Zealand outfit's debut album, Volume I & II, is a sing-a-long collision of jangling harmonies, stomping percussion, horns and guitars.
Feted as a must-see act at both CMJ 2013 and SXSW 2014, the septet toured across North America in 2014 with dates supporting Kaiser Chiefs, and Cults, along with an appearance at Bonnaroo. A series of North American, Europe and UK tours followed in 2015, including an appearance at Governor's Ball Festival.
Like Bob Dylan running late to a Ramones concert, Cat Stevens on a blind date with Patti Smith, or even Paul Simon getting blind drunk with Grizzly Bear -- however you describe them, the resulting songs and sound have had an instant effect on fans and critics alike and with widely hailed comparisons ranging from Lucius through to Lou Reed.
Streets of Laredo will tour with Shakey Graves in the US this Summer in support of the single release of 99.9% via Canvasback Records (US) / Dine Alone Records (WW) on June 24, 2016. The band's sophomore album, produced by John Agnello (Kurt Vile, Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr.), will be released in Fall 2016.
